Our Shoes & More store is Open!

Thanks so much Creative People in Florence for stopping by our new store- Shoes and More. We had a chat about all things New Kid and living in Florence. Excerpt below-

SPOTLIGHT: RACHEL BEAGLEY + NEW KID

EN: "Tell us a little about your background and the history of New Kid. Though from Australia, I haven’t lived there for longer than 6 months since I was 17. I have spent time in NZ, UK and Italy. I didn’t study fashion or design, I did a management degree and shoe pattern making course in Milan. My family has always been involved in retail, particularly footwear. In the early 2000’s after quitting my job as a buyer in NZ and going to Milan to learn more about the construction of shoes, I found myself in London and noticed a giant gap in the market for flats. This is where NK began. I have always enjoyed traveling, which is where my textile and texture appreciation came from, that and my Nana taught me to make clothes. I always wanted to make things which were totally different from what you could easily buy. Lately, I just want everything to be comfortable and easy, but either super matchy the Italian way or clashing completely."

IT: "Raccontaci un po’ della tua storia e della nascita di New Kid. Sebbene sia nata in Australia, non ho mai vissuto lì più a lungo di 6 mesi da quando ho 17 anni. Ho trascorso la mia vita in Nuova Zelanda, Gran Bretagna e Italia. I miei studi non sono stati inerenti al mondo della moda, ho una laurea in gestione del commercio e ho seguito un corso di modellista per calzature a Milano. La mia famiglia però è sempre stata nel giro del commercio al dettaglio, specialmente di calzature. I primi anni 2000, dopo essermi licenziata dal mio lavoro di buyer in Nuova Zelanda e dopo essere stata a Milano a studiare la costruzione della calzatura, mi sono trasferita a Londra e lì ho notato che nel mercato c’era un grosso vuoto per quanto riguarda le scarpe basse. Così è nato New Kid. Mi è sempre piaciuto viaggiare, proprio dai miei viaggi nasce la mia passione per i tessuti e per le texture in generale, e poi da mia nonna che mi insegnò a cucire e farmi i vestiti da sola. Ho sempre voluto fare cose che fossero completamente diverse da quelle che puoi facilmente comprare. Ultimamente vorrei che i miei prodotti fossero soprattutto comodi e facili da indossare…coordinati e in tinta nel vero stile italiano oppure con forti contrasti!"
